FRESHMEN
An important, mandatory program on communication and consent in late January. From Dean Mary Miller and Assistant Dean Melanie Boyd: “This new workshop, developed by a team of deans, frocos, and CCEs, is part of Yale’s ongoing efforts to expand our collective capacity for preventing and responding to sexual misconduct.
The workshop will examine the signals people use to distinguish among agreement, refusal, and ambiguity. The workshop will be small and interactive, taking place in your froco group and hosted by a pair of CCEs. Details on the time and place of your group’s session will be forthcoming from your residential college dean or froco.
We would like to remind you that in addition to these workshops, Yale has many resources for responding to specific incidents of sexual misconduct; you can find full information at http://smr.yale.edu/. You can also call the Sexual Harassment and Assault Response and Education (SHARE) Center at any time of day or night for information, advocacy, and support: 203-432-2000.
All of us in Yale College are resolute in our efforts to build an empowered, knowledgeable community capable of recognizing – and intervening in – the complex dynamics of sexual misconduct. The recommendations of the Marshall Committee and the response from President Levin have further strengthened that resolve. This new workshop is a particularly important piece of our ongoing efforts, and we thank you in advance for your active engagement. Together, we are fostering the values of integrity, civility, and respect at Yale.”
SOPHOMORES
In response to growing student demand, the Environmental Studies Major is offering a December application opportunity in addition to their traditional February application deadline. An application is required to join the Environmental Studies Major, and their decision to accept students into the major is based upon past academic performance and clarity of intent to concentrate within the major. The advantage of the December application, and subsequent early January response, is that it allows more time for students to plan their courses, concentrations, internships, and senior essays. Considering the December application opportunity is strongly encouraged by the department.
Interested students should complete the application below and submit it to studies.environment@yale.edu by 5 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 for the early application opportunity, or by 5 pm Friday, February 24, 2012 for the traditional application period. Paul Sabin the Environmental Studies DUS, Sara Smiley Smith the Program Director, and the Environmental Studies Chair John Wargo welcome your questions.
